Rodion Amirov Scouting Report

Player Overview:

2019/20 Team: Salavat Yulaev Ufa(KHL)
Position: Left Wing
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 168 lbs
Handedness: Left

Rodion Amirov is a top prospect for the 2020 NHL Draft. The Russian winger split his season between the KHL, VHL, and MHL. He didn’t have the best production in the KHL, only scoring two points in 21 games with Salavat Yulaev Ufa. This concerns scouts as Amirov may not have strong productions at higher levels. After his KHL stint, Amirov played much better in the VHL and MHL, producing more points and playing a more well-rounded game. Amirov has also had strong showings at the international level. Last year at the U18 World Juniors, he scored six goals and added three assists for nine points in seven games.

Offensive Abilities

Amirov is a skilled two-way winger who thrives in the offensive zone. One of his best assets is his hands and vision, which help him create lots of space for him to make plays. He is not the fastest skater, but he is shifty on his skates and uses his strong edgework to his advantage. With a high hockey IQ, he forchecks hard and makes high-quality passes to his teammates. Amirov is especially strong in the cycle game. He does a great job at keeping the puck moving, staying patient, and creating dangerous opportunities. Another thing Amirov can do is shoot. His shot is very quick and extremely accurate, making him a threat on the ice. Also, because he is so good at creating space for himself, he can get himself in a solid spot to score from a rebound or pass in front.

Defensive Abilities

On the defensive end, Amirov might not be the most physical guy, but he always has an active stick, creating lots of disruption for the opposition. He maintains his defensive positioning and anticipates plays leading to turnovers or bad decision making for the other team. He is often used as a player on the penalty kill.

Projection

Amirov is a very well-rounded winger. He projects to be a solid two-way, top-six winger at the NHL level. He will play next season in the KHL with Salavat Yulaev Ufa in hopes of getting more ice time and developing at a pro level.
