6 foot 165 Pound Goaltender Amir Miftakhov was drafted in the 6th Round by the Reigning Stanley Cup Champions the Tampa Bay Lightning. In his draft year, Miftakhov played 23 games for Bars Kazan of the VHL and also played 2 games with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL. In his tenure with Bars Kazan that season, he had a record of 8-10-3 with a 2.19 GAA and a .913 SV%. Also in his draft year, he took the place of Askarov as the Russian Starter at the World Juniors after Askarov played awful, in Miftakhov’s 5 Games at the World Juniors Russia was able to return from Ostrava with a Silver Medal. In those 5 Games Miftakov went 2-2-0 with a 2.12 GAA and a .919 SV%. 


In the 2020-2021 Season with Bars Kazan Miftakhov in 12 Games has a 3.30 GAA and a .893SV% in 12 Games with a record of 4-4-1. Miftakhov snuck into 7 Games with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL and had a record of 4-2-0 with one shutout, a GAA of 2.25 and a SV% of .917. 


With Miftakov being an overager as he is currently 20 Years Old he was not able to participate in the 2021 World Juniors. He will need 3-4 More years in the KHL until he would be a serviceable backup for Vasilevskiy. Miftahov also has tough competition with Lightning Prospect Hugo Alnefelt, they will battle it out over the next few years to see who will make the jump to the NHL first.
