Jack Quinn is slated to be a first-round selection in this year's NHL entry draft. Quinn is a dangerous offensive threat for the Ottawa 67's of the OHL. With the 67's this season, he tallied 52 goals and 37 assists for 89 points. He led his team in goals, and finished 2nd in goals scored this season in all of the OHL.
Offensive Abilities
In my opinion, Jack Quinn is the 2nd best sniper available in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, trailing only Alexander Holtz. When Jack's on the ice, you better not leave him open. If you do, there's a good chance that the puck will go in. Jack possesses good skating, pretty good stickhandling and hockey sense, as well as a disgusting shot that includes a deadly release with a pretty disgusting accuracy percentage. When Jack has the puck, he can use his stickhandling ability and hockey smarts to decide whether he should dump the puck in, pass it to a teammate, shoot the puck on net, or try to take matters into his own hands by just simply dangling around you. Quinn likes to score a lot of his goal around the net, maximizing his shot power and most likely his accuracy. Jack was one of the leading forces on a successful 67's power play this season. On the powerplay, he had 15 goals and 16 assists. Many people think that he's just a product of Marco Rossi, but I disagree. You can see the skill in his game, and any team would be pleased to add him to their lineup in a few years.
Defensive Abilities
Jack Quinn provides energy and excitement throughout all three zones. Since he isn't the biggest player at only 6'1 179lbs, he most likely won't be relied upon to throw hits for your team. However, he is willing to work along the boards by digging for pucks and trying to get them out of his own zone with as much control as possible. He can play on the penalty kill though. When he's out there with one less teammate, he's willing to carry the puck up the ice and try to score a shorthanded goal. He scored three shorthanded goals this season. If an NHL scout is reading this, don't tell your GM to draft him for his play in his own zone. Tell him all about his amazing offensive game.
Potential
Although Quinn is one of the older players in this year's draft, he still has the potential to be a great player at the NHL level. I believe that he could be an effective player on your 1st or 2nd line and someone who could be an effective powerplay guy. He has the potential to possibly hit 30-35 goals in a career year. I do believe, however, that Quinn should stay with Ottawa for at least one more year to help build his frame and to improve on parts of his game like his play in his own end, while also maintaining and improving on his stellar offensive styled game. If everything goes right, Jack can be an effective goal scorer at the NHL level!
